The Refugee Initiative
By the end of 2022, the number of people forcibly displaced is now 108.4 million, and over 35.3 million refugees. Refugee’s are defined as “someone who has left their home country and formally applied for asylum in another country”.
Refugees are often led to flee their home country without choice or alternative due to an increasing number of reasons which include:
-
Climate-displacement
-
Economic hardship
-
Political Corruption
-
War and Armed Conflict
-
Religious and Ethnic Conflict
-
Human Right Violations
-
Gender-based violence
-
Displacement chain reaction
Organizations have been working tirelessly around the globe to support refugees in both resolving the challenges in home countries and working to create access and opportunity in host countries.
The refugee’s face a series of challenges in both travel, accommodation, livelihoods, language, political and community bias and much more. It is a complex situation to navigate, and volunteers must be mindful when working for this cause.
